DUNADEN - Annexed The Melbourne Cup by a Whisker

·

WINNER OF THE MELBOURNE CUP 2011
 First four placings
1. Dunaden
       2. Red Cadeaux
         3. Lucas Cranach
 4. Americain

The winner of the 2011 $6 million Melbourne Cup is Dunaden. He beat Red Cadeaux by a whisker and Lucas Cranach was third.  Carrying considerably less weight than his Geelong Cup win, Dunaden made a name for himself in Europe at distances winning seven wins beyond 2000m. Ridden by Christophe Lemaire, this win means that the French have taken back to back Melbourne Cups. Early in the race, Dunaden was bunched midfield but broke clear to sit one wide of Fox Hunt midfield. To the line it was Red Cadeaux and Dunaden. A photo finish pronounced Dunaden the winner to the joy of thousands at Flemington. Lucas Cranach came in third while Americain has run from nowhere to come fourth. Last year’s winner, Americain, started favourite at $5 and finished fourth

The Melbourne Cup 2011 - Selections

·

The Melbourne Cup – the greatest national sporting and cultural event may stop the nation - Australia’s greatest event has turned into a global sport.  There may be contemporaries world over – Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, The Kentucky Derby,  The Epsom Derby, The Dubai World Cup etc.  The Melbourne Cup is a unique handicap event, with NO AGE, NO CLASS, NO SEX restriction – a general handicap race of over 3200m, hence it is considered as one of the greatest races in the world.  There is going to be a fierce fight between 24 entrants from all over the world, in its 151st edition of running,  on a DEAD track at Flemington, with 3 Metre Rails laid over the entire circuit. Even though the  straight is only 448m the result cannot be predicted.

For the followers of form, American, Dunaden, Jukebox Jury, Niwot,  Drunken Sailor, Lucas Cranach and Illo are the prime contenders.

On primary analysis the track favour - Niwot, Shamrocker, Americain, Glass Harmonium, Mourayan, Precedence.  The Distance favour - Americain, Drunken Sailor, Niwot are pure stayers. The Track and Distance favour – two stayers Americain and Niwot.

If we look at the Jockeys participating in the event,  DAMIAN OLIVER – is a winner of Melbourne Cup in 1995 and 2002.  In 2002 he won on Media Puzzle just days after his brother Jason was tragically killed in a fall.  The story is retold in a feature film called ‘The Cup”.

DARREN BEADMAN  - is one of Australia’s elite jockeys, regularly riding in Hong Kong. He won the Melbourne Cup in 1990 on Kingston Rule.

COREY BROWN – He is one of the most outstanding jockeys in Australia.  His most prestigious win was in 2009 - the Melbourne Cup on Shocking after it appeared all hope was lost when his mount was stuck wide out for most of the 3200m trip.

MICHAEL RODD – Winner of 2007 Melbourne Cup on Efficient. Two time winner of the Ron Hutchison Award for being the most successful jockey during the Melbourne Spring Carnival in 2007 and 2008.

GLEN BOSS -  He is the only one jockey in the history of Melbourne Cup’s history to make it three-in a row – 2003, 2004 and 2005.  And the wonder horse was Makybe Diva. He broke the neck in 2007 after a horrific fall. He returned to racing in 2010 and very active.

JIM CASSIDY -  He is nicknamed as ‘The Pumper’, won the Melbourne Cup in 1983 on KIWI when he was only 20 years old. 14 years later in 1997 on Might and Power he added one more in his kitty. Although he is around 48 today he is still durable.

KERRIN MCEVOY – Won the Melbourne Cup in 2000 on Brew.  He is one of the leading jockeys in Victoria

Handicapping and Winning

·

Race goers are in any way have a weird approach; most are in this sport with the number one emphasis on making money.  To enjoy horse racing should not indulge in that category, never think about running away with sacks of money.    I see horse racing as a Sport, for me it is a great hobby.   It is good to keep statistics for percentage and money, but it really is not about seeing how much bucks I can count at the end of the day.   After going thru the entire card, if you find at least one race that give you confident bet, then you have the ‘edge’ over others.   Determining the winning chance through the probabilities provide alternative wagering possibilities, if the odds on the horse fall below fair value.

I have been questioned by a fellow punter why my second choices coming first and first choices have negative figures?  He wanted an explanation how I pick first choices.  I can only say to him that  I usually  review the top 4 finishers carefully after each race, determine the pole position, the leaders at 2nd and 3rd calls, and determine each horse was how many lengths in front or behind the leader, in other words relative position to rest of the field.  Fractional time at the first call is inconsistent when there are false rails up and the starting stalls are adjusted, or the start takes from the Chute.

In pace figures the most important factors are track surface, wind, false rails, finally the running tactics of the jockey in that race.  Most horses are only capable of running within their own capacity depending on the track conditions; hence the jockeys riding tactics (for you it may be sic) should be adjusted in the final time.   If the trainer instructs the jockey to ease up if the horse is not in winning or place contention at the end.  Another factor is,  if the pace is too fast and your horse just throws the bit.  And what if the pace is horribly slow, everyone ends up with a slow pace figure.  How many handicappers’ adjust an injudicious ride as a variant in the final time figures?   I think all these factors have to be adjusted with the track’s par figures to get the daily variant.

A head wind at a speed of anything beyond 20 mph or above into the backstretch, in the turn or in the straight can affect the final figure.  Likewise a tailwind can fasten up the final timings. What if there is no wind in the first four races and it starts later or vice versa.  In India such data is not available, so there is no way any handicapper can adjust this.   There are experts who are taking pace time of the “winners” is somewhat a correct method. Others who take the “leaders” at each call is irrelevant, particularly when there are different leaders at each calls.  Handicappers can work out Pace figures the Jim Cramer style and Pace Pars the Randy Giles style.

Mind it, if you use a variant you are making up a fictional time.  You cannot call one variant more accurate than another since the whole point of using a variant is to move away from the actual raw time.    These are all fantasy times no matter how you evaluate them.   Winner picking is still difficult, because of there are extraneous factors involved as explained above.
Believe me, you will never achieve accuracy in any form of handicapping, all  formulas have only minimum worthiness.  It is all time pass.  Because the money targeted by the punters is lying with the bookies. So the bookies formula is extremely different.

Good luck

Horse Racing in India

·

Article first published as Horse Racing in India on Technorati.

In India, horse racing industry has been taken over by the Builders. Builders are always connected to the mafia as it is often reported in the media. I suspect any owner left here who boast of pride and prestige. The entire racing industry is controlled by thugs and by the cheats. The trainer and the owner pitch two or three horses in a race and the un-fancied horse is being tried. If a trainer has two horses in a field one will be ridden by the champion jockey, and the other will be ridden by a non-winner. Don’t shake your head if the non-winner will dance away with the race. What happened during Pune Derby day this Sunday is the finest example what I say. Tag Along Tommy was un-fancied, which was ridden by Iqbal Shaikh – he has not ridden a winner for years, has ran away with the race. The trainer’s other ward, Hurricane Bird in the last race was fiercely fancied ridden by Champion jockey Y.S. Srinath stalked all thru the race and damned the bettors.
Drug abuse is another factor that is constantly maligning the Indian horse racing at the moment, and Boldenone is the culprit. The connections use this drug regularly; use it intentionally to get the instant results. The Race Clubs detects the drugs after a considerable lapse of time, and the culprits get away after paying a lenient fine. The hard earned money wagered on fancied horses is channeled to these culprits, and no solace to the race goers. After 64 years of Independence, it is because the Indian horse racing Industry is still at its infancy.
In UK there about 58 race courses, and in The US the number is 60, whereas we have in India only nine Race Clubs. Out of these MumbaiBangalore and Hyderabad are the only three centers have some pride and prestige; all other centers like Chennai, Ooty, Kolkata, Delhi and Mysore are the worst Race Clubs. The horses are discards from other centers or the aged ones, and the races are conducted with manipulative results all the time. The God can only save the punters of that part of the world.

MAM and Four Generations

·

Dr.MAM
Destiny Calling wishes all the best to the grand old man of Indian Horse Racing, Dr. MAM Ramaswamy.  Dr. MAM was born on 30th September 1931, as the second son of Raja Sir Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad.  The initials Muthiah Annamalai Muthiah stands for three generations of Chettiyars, they are  Great Grand father, SRMM Muthiah Chettiar, his son Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, the founder of Chettinad group, his son, Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar. When you cal Dr. MAM Ramaswamy all his three previous generations are revered.
Dr Rajah Annamalai

The doyen of Indian racing loved and trotted horses when he was just 12.  At 16 he used to play Polo with big time players of that time and the climb was fast. He started his career in racing in 1964 when he and his elder brother Kumarajah MAM Muthiah approached Rashid Byramji, to train their horse, Silver Jet, bought from the Raja of Nasarganj.  Silver Jet gave them their first Classic victory when he annexed the Bangalore Colts Trials Stakes in 1965 with Pandu Khade up in the saddle.  When Tudor Jet clinched the Bangalore Derby in 1967, his brother was there to share the glory and the horse was jointly owned by them.  He was very fond of his elder brother and he felt lonely after his demise in 1970.  There are trophy races in the fond memory of his brother.

Dr Rajah Muthiah
Dr. MAM studied at Vivekanda College at Chennai and after graduation in Arts, was inducted in the Chettinad Group, founded by his Grand father – Rajah of Chettinad – the late Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, in 1912.  He is currently chairman of the group founded by his grandfather, and his adopted son, MAMR Muthiah is the Vice-Chairman.  The Chettinad Group is a group of companies having their diversified business activities, from Cement Industries to Finance and Banking to University, Colleges and Schools to Stud Farms to Information Technology and many more.

He was conferred D.Lit by four Universities and this is a rare phenomenon.  Annamalai University, Chidambaram in 1979, Alagappa University, Karaikudi Univeristy in 1996, Pondicherry Central University in 1997 and Anna University in 2001.  He is maternal Uncle to our Home Minister Mr.P.Chidambaram.

Dr MAM adopted a 'commoner boy” called, Ayyappan as his son, as there was furor in the Chettiar community for his act.  He was later renamed as “Muthiah” after Ramaswamy's father.   He is MAMR Muthiah the present Vice Chairman of the Group.

What is this nonsense and when it will end?

Hi,
Just now I have opened my mail and seen your letter.
First of all, I swear by my all Gods I never wrote anything about him or Mr Vikram Sood.  I am not that type to post comments in "Anonymous" names.  In each and every blog you - can see at least one encouraging comment from me - at any point of time. I did not try to pull anyone down. I am very much aghast to see the "anonymous comments" against me in Shyam's Blog and Charan's Blog.

Mr Vinod Triplestar, Mr Purush Sethi and Mr. Satish Kulkarni were my co-bloggers, they left me because whenever they write a 'certain section' alleged 'these people are bogus' and Nair writing in different names.  Lot of malice posted in late Turfparrot site.  Everyone has their identity intact and they enjoy respect in their field,  such persons will not "stay put" with me if these type of allegations are flowing in. So they left.

I have no problem who is leading blogger in India. I wanted to show the innocent readers follow the best.  Horse racing is a maligned gambling sport in India, lot of youngsters are misled and brought to this sport due to greed, eventually spoil their life and family.  If you people don't want it I have no problem, I will discontinue it.  We can only save time by curbing it.

If you can see my chart, and my last two postings in my blog, I appreciated the work of Charan and asked people to follow the leader Charan and Bolrace.com for better results.  I always supported the best and encouraged them to continue.

Can you show me a single nasty comments from me about anyone in any blog? Yes a year ago we were having some heated arguments.  That is history. Everyone forgot that. In between about 3-4 months back I have even visited Chat Room and interacted for two minutes.

On a second visit to his Chat Room he and Sood were talking about Manojit Mondal who abused me in my open domain.

Do you think the abusive words like "b.....d", "s,.,.,.l", "idiot", "sous", "m,,.,.r c...th.", b... c...h" etc are reserved for Charan, Sood, or Manojit Mondal?   The way Charan writes, the way some Anonymous comments in Shyam's blog, if I put across all these abusive comments together - there are similarities if you collate them.  So I wanted a comment from Charan directly to my blog. Instead I received your mail, for which I am thanking you.

Your mail is the second, earlier I have received one more supporting mail from another blogger from Charan's party.

Mr Ravi,  now you at the Charan's camp.  I appreciate your letter for attempting a peace.  I have no problem.   If you people have a problem in posting 'Tipsters comparison chart" I will stop it.  But one thing several years back I have started Collecting Tipsters selections and posting it on my blog. Rather I have assigned points to each selections, and converting it to Odds, be it Night Odds, Opening Odds, or Tipsters Odds was my concept and ideas, and over the internet several articles available from 2004. You may recall it I talked to you several hours in the night over the phone and taught you the basics when you were with my blog. There is article available in my blog on this subject and anyone can learn this art of shortlisting horses based on tipsters selections and giving them fair odds.  Charan robbed my idea and using it for his IPP and  Expected Odds.  Only decoration is the Graph.  The concept is the same.  I know he has the problem if I continue Tipsters Comparison chart, Tipsters Odds because he cannot challenge me on these factors because I am the author, and he is plagiarizing my ideas and concepts. So it is natural he wanted to get rid of me from the Blogosphere.  So he shows negative vibes.

But one thing you have to remember, Mr Shyam is the first blogger and I am the second Blogger in India started blogs exclusively for Horse racing. You, Charan, Swamy, KS Rao, Mr.Vinod Tiplestar, Mr. Purush Sethi, Mr. Satish Kulkarni, all these guys  were with me as my co-bloggers for some time and learned the art of blogging from me.  You and Charan had ambitious plans and started your own blog/blogs without informing me.  I helped Mr Swamy opening his blog in its primitive days. Why he is not against me?  Last three guys were with me without much contribution to my blogs, recently left on their choice.   I have no problem what you people are doing. I am not hampering anyone's work. I expect the same thing from you and Charan also.

By the way - I appreciate his selections, he post it very late though after checking the latest odds.

God bless you all.  Actually I did not want to remind the past or reminisce old things. I will not go to Charan's blog any more and let him write anything.  I will not visit Shyam's blog or any other blogger from today. (I breached this promise and visited today to post a brief reply to Vikram Sood).

Mr Khanna, I am a Congressman, and we are secular. I am staying in a Muslim populated area, where I have witnessed three Communal riots. I don't eat flesh or creatures, I am a vegetarian so my thinking and writing is not that aggressive.

I will post this letter in my blog and hope if it found necessary.
Rajagopal

P.S.:  I wonder what is hitting me regularly.  For the sake of others, I have got rid of  Google Ads, 2 other blogs, Twitter, Face Book and all other Social Networks, still people haunting me.  Is this man has no fear about Indian Laws? How he dares others with abusive names, even he warns me to shoot down !  Is he crazy?

Someone has installed a RECENT POST PLUG IN in Face Book. Yesterday there were around 200 hits there back to this blog.  Why indirectly chasing me man?.  This is the equivalent of BLOG LIST we normally install in our blogs.
Anyone wants to install this "plug in" (gadget) on their blog visit the following blog:

Hi guys,
A certain section of people got mislead when they could not find my blog in the morning hours. I have not stopped blogging. Yes of course I have had a problem with the Google Adsense syndication, which is over and their ads were appearing in my blogs have been discontinued. Contrary to what some of the guys have to say about Adsense, my association with Google Adsense was jovial and fruitful till today morning.  Present decision is to please only the Lions and Tigers.  It is a fact after removing the ads you feel the site is empty. For example,  any one check Won2ka4 should have the feeling of an emptiness, because both the right side columns are devoid of any contents which daunts a painful look. Of course colorful ads give a lustrous appearance.

A section of bloggers are afraid of talking about truth. I don't know why.  I have not published any misleading report ever.  Sometime you win, sometime you.  Why afraid?  When I used to publish All India Tipsters performance for a month, no one has a problem.  If that hurt someone, I am sorry.  I have decided to analyze all bloggers performance after the race.  It can only improve your performance - not to tarnish anyone's image.  If my performance is below par that will be definitely brought to your attention.

By the way just wanted to remind some guys who write annoying letters in some other bloggers.  Bloggers should install the 'Stats' window from Blogger Dashboard and allow the readers to check the total number of visitors.  Blogger Dashboard Stats cannot be manipulated. Come on guys, just install it at once and let us see your followers.  Why blame me I have no supporters. All visitors stats visible on front page.

Why blame each other guys, all tipsters are doing their bits. But remember tipsters are neither doing an I.T. job nor they are IAS officers. From literate to illiterate wanted to take up this job I don't know why? This is the most unpleasant job in the world. Punters will follow you if you give consecutive winners.  So come on guys, let us start the game, let our performance talk.

Tipsters performance - Kolkata Races 13.09.2011
Total 7 races:

Major Tipsters:
Shyam (www.horsesandraces.blogspot.com)
Shyam's Tally: 3-0-0
3 Outright winners, which fetched dividends of Rs. 53 + 58 +  48 =  Rs 159 minus 70 = Net profit of Rs 89. It is an amazing feat because he posts his selections overnight.

Charan Kumar (www.ckumar45.blogspot.com)
Charan's Tally: 1-0-2
01 first choice winner -0- second choice winner, and 2 third choice winners
One winner tipped which was his Day's Best. Incidentally that was 40 Paisa favorite. On Kolkata tote paid Rs. 14/- only. Overall the races held at his backyard, dont blame him - he is meddled in a court case nowadays,  he will come back tomorrow at Mysore with some amazing tips, I hope we should encourage him.

A broken blood vessel often break the punters back bone.

·

Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage is well known condition in the horse racing community.  Almost all horses, racing or not, may develop in microscopic or large lung bleeding.  According to vets, there is no definite treatment for this ailment.

We have noticed in India most of the on-money favorites break blood vessels and doom the racing public.   Several race goers have asked me this question, why it happens especially when it is strongly fancied.  Angelo, Blackjack, Star Warrior, Romantic Sunset, and many other horses broken the punters back bone.

Fear of Losing the money

"One of the primary keys needed to unlock your mental game is to become very aware that your emotions affect your brain’s chemistry and performance.  Many individuals do not realize that there are two types of goals. There are "outcome goals" that give you direction, such as lowering your level or making a particular shot. But "process goals", which include the dedication and hard work required to be competitive in achieving your goal, it is even more important"

Hi Guys,
The RADIO ONE trophy from the cancelled races yesterday has been rescheduled as the first race of Sunday at Pune. So the first race starts at 1.00 PM instead of 1.30 PM as stated in the Race Cards.

TOTE PLAYERS SHOULD CONFIRM THE 'ORDER OF RACING' before playing.  Since Radio One Trophy has been added as the first race of the day, original order of racing already published will follow 2nd, 3rd and 4th in that order.
